This coming August the Diocese will host a conference at Honey Creek intended for Lay People who regularly serve as worship leaders in their congregations. Their service could be leading Morning Prayer, arranging for and setting up details for a visiting supply priest in order to have the Holy Eucharist, or other routine worship leading.
The conference will take place August 28-29, 2026. beginning on Friday afternoon and ending on Saturday afternoon. During the conference participants will be offered information on the history of Episcopal worship, as well as practical training on how to prepare for and lead worship services effectively. In addition, this conference will offer training on how to prepare for and lead Communion by Extension, which is envisioned as a way for congregations without routine clergy presence to receive Communion by “extending in time” a previous service of the Holy Eucharist that took place in their community. In order to offer Communion by Extension, training will be required, along with additional discernment involving both the congregation and the Diocesan Office.
The Lay Worship Leaders’ conference will be led by The Rev. Ian Lasch, and the Rev. Canon Joshua Varner.
